Who we are and what we do
|
 |
 |
RDA is a UK Charity that was first registered in 1969, when, largely through the influence of The Duchess of Norfolk, some 80 existing Groups came together to form one Association. In 1975 the constitution was amended to include carriage driving.
| RDA has a fascinating history of
remarkable people, mainly from the horse world, who had the
vision, enthusiasm and ability to create and develop
opportunities for disabled to enjoy the companionship of the
horse. The story is told in ‘The Spirit of RDA’ (available
from RDA National HQ,) Postal Address;
Norfolk House,
1a Tournament Court,
Edgehill Drive,
Warwick
CV34 6LG
Today HRH The Princess Royal, who is president of RDA National, makes a major contribution throughout the association. RDA is now run by some 15,000 volunteers in over 600 Member Groups who provide riding and carriage driving to some 24,000 adults and young people with a wide range of disabilities. |

|
Our aim is to provide disabled people with the opportunity to ride and drive to the benefit of their health and well being.
|
| Our objectives are to acquire, manage and support our resources: people, horses, ponies, facilities and finance and to make available suitable training for our volunteers. We operate the Cobbes Meadow Group from Chartham, near Canterbury and during this year 170 riders and drivers took up the opportunities we offered. Apart from the weekly sessions we arranged a Group Dressage Day, a Summer Horse Show, a Christmas Extravaganza, a Wine & Wisdom Evening and Jumble Sales all to help raise funds the Group; not to mention Driving Holidays, Competitions, and a trip up to Olympia just for fun.
